THERE was a distinct air of sadness in Killarney at the weekend following the passing of Pat Kenny, from Mill Road and late of Muckross, who was a hugely respected and greatly admired member of the close-knit community.

Pat passed away, peacefully and in the presence of his family, on Sunday.

Many people – from many parts of the country – will remember Pat as one of the friendly doormen in the Gleneagle Hotel where he worked for many years with his brother Fred.

He always had a friendly welcome and a kind word for patrons and he was a great ambassador for the busy entertainment venue and for the town.

Throughout his career in tourism,Pat worked in a number of local hotels and he was also on the staff of Pretty Polly for a number of years.

A very quiet and dignified man, and a gentleman in every sense of the word, Pat was predeceased by his brother Micheál and sisters Shelia Doyle, Chris Sheahan and Eileen Kenny.

He is survived by his wife, Maureen, daughters Michelle and Noreen, sons-in-law David Keogh and Colm Daly, grandchildren Ciara, Marie and Elizabeth, brothers Billy and Fred, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many good friends.

Reposing at O’Shea’s Funeral Home, Killarney on Tuesday from 4.30pm to 6.30pm, removal will take place afterwards to St Mary’s Cathedral. Requiem Mass will be on Wednesday at 10.30am with burial afterwards in Aghadoe Lawn Cemetery, Killarney.

The family has requested donations, in lieu of flowers, if desired, to be made to the Rockmount Day Care Centre, Kilgarvan.
