ONE of the most popular personalities in the GAA in Kerry, who has devoted so much time and energy to the association, is celebrating a real golden moment this week but with the woman he loves taking real precedence over the game he loves.
East Kerry Board Chairman, Johnny Brosnan, and his wife, Catherine, are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and they can both reflect on many truly golden moments they enjoyed during their five decades as husband and wife.
The happy couple, from Currow, have been inundated with message of congratulations and good wishes, not only from the tight-knit GAA community, but from throughout the entire county and further afield.
The East Kerry Board and the committee of the Fitzgerald Stadium – where Johnny is a loyal volunteer and steward – led the goodwill messages.
Passionate GAA man Johnny made history in 2018 when he became the first member of Currow GAA Club to be elected chairman of the East Kerry Board during its 95-year history but his success came as no surprise to admirers of the pleasant administrator who has always had the best interests of the GAA at heart.
His rise to the top officer role in the board has co-incided with East Kerry’s incredible run of successes at minor and senior county championship level and the back-to-back senior SFC victories in 2019 and this year were a major source of pride to Johnny.
Sport has always been a big priority for the Brosnan family with Johnny and Catherine’s son Liam winning All-Ireland minor and under 21 medals with Kerry and representing Ireland at basketball, another son, John won a Munster minor medal with South Kerry, son Conor also won minor and under-21 East Kerry medal and daughters, Maura and Peggy, also made their mark in both GAA and basketball.
