Gooch proves the master of the small ball

MORE familiar with shooting the lights out in Croke Park or Fitzgerald Stadium, Colm Cooper proved to be a master with a smaller ball when he scorched to victory in the Dr Crokes GAA Club Golf Society’s President’s Prize.

Playing off 15, he finished on a very impressive 41 points to clinch Niall Brosnan’s prize ion a glorious day for golf at Kenmare Golf Club.

“Delighted to win. As always a very competitive field and a few sharks circling,” Gooch said on Twitter afterwards.

He edged out Greg O’Donoghue (17) 38 points, Shane Horgan (3) 37 points, Joey Sheehan (6) 37 points, Brendan Keogh (7) 37 points and Der Brosnan (18) 38 points.

The category one winner was Tommy Regan (11) 36 points and the category 2 prize went to John O’Leary (18) 36 points.

Martin Byrnes took the first nine honour on 19 points while the president himself, Niall Brosnan, stole the show on the back nine on 20 points.
