There’s a distinct possibility that Connie Brosnan had a word in the ear of the Man himself given the dramatic change in weather conditions that welcomed the early starters in the St Paul’s Basketball Club golf classic played at Beaufort Golf Club and dedicated to the late Connie’s memory.
Heavy and torrential overnight rain gave way to blue skies, sunshine and a tanning westerly breeze and, no doubt, Connie would have enjoyed the day’s proceedings from his lofty perch above.
Fittingly, the winners came from a course he graced for many years.
The skilled quartet from Killarney Golf Club, namely Brendan O’Toole, Enda Murphy, Baden Maher and Michael Maher, showed they are masters of more than their home course with a superb return of 89 points.
As good as they were, they only squeezed home on the back six from the Speakeasy Bar team of Mike Dwyer, Kevin Lynch, Alan Daly and John McCarthy.
Hot on both their tails was Frank Doran and his Safeguard Security team of Frank himself, Diarmaid O’Shea, Harry O’Neill and Damien Callinan who hit a very impressive 88 points.

The St Paul’s club would like to thank everyone who took part in the golf classic, sponsored a team or a tee-box, donated prizes and bought tickets in the raffle. Special thanks to Tadgh Clifford and the greenkeeping team who had the course in immaculate shape, despite the recent days of unpredictable weather.
Finally, this event would not be the success it was, with 35 teams taking part, without the work of the organising committee, namely Sean Brosnan, Joe Sheehan, Maurice O’Donoghue, Tom Looney and chairman Paul Sheehan.
