THE Green Party in Kerry has welcomed the announcement in Budget 2021 of a €150 million allocation for the urban regeneration and development fund and a €192 million contribution to the local government fund next year.

The party’s representative in Killarney, Diarmaid Griffin, said it is important to fund local authorities that have lost out on rates payments and the car parking charges – two of their main revenue sources – over the past seven months.

The budget also includes €300 million for a further commercial rates waiver for the final quarter of this year, providing significant relief for businesses and local authorities.

Under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme, there will be a €5 million investment in facilities for digital hubs and broadband connection points in rural Ireland, aimed at enhancing remote working capability and remote access for students.
