IT will require an additional 42 days for planning applications to be processed by Kerry County Council during the Covid-19 restrictions, the local authority has confirmed.
If applications were lodged before February 21, the five-week public participation phase has been completed and the planning authority can make a decision within the extended deadline.
If a planning application was lodged between the February 21 and 29 March 29, the decision cannot be made until after May 9 to ensure that the public participation element has been completed and the remaining period for public consultation will be added after May 9.
If an application is lodged after March 29, it cannot be decided by the planning authority until the five-week period for public consultation on the application commences. This legislative amendment will result in approximately 120 planning applications falling due for decision on June 29.
There was an initial spike in the number of planning applications lodged up to the week ending April 10 but it soon returned to normal levels of activity. By comparison, during the period from January to April last year, a total 454 planning applications were received. For the same period this year the planning department is on course to receive approximately 430 applications.
Planning applications can continue to be made by post and all applications will be available for inspection online at http://www.kerrycoco.ie/planning/online-planning-enquiry/
Submissions or observations on planning applications can continue to be made by post. The
extended timeframes will also apply to planning appeals, which An Bórd Pleanála will continue to receive by post.
Pre-planning under Section 247 will continue online and by telephone but face-to-face meetings will not be facilitated until advised by the HSE and the department.
