All-conquering four-in-a-row Kerry soccer league and cup double champions Killarney Celtic FC attracted a bumper crowd to Beaufort Golf Club this Saturday for its annual golf classic fundraiser which is always one of the best supported events in the town.

Players turned out in great numbers from early morning but although the change in the weather since the start of September indicated that there might be problems ahead, nobody predicated that it was going to descend into a washout.
While some good scores were being posed out on the course, conditions deteriorated dramatically as the day wore on and torrential rain made the task at hand next to near impossible.
The organisers had to eventually succumb to the inevitable and the white flag was raised to force a halt to play for health and safety reasons as the course became unplayable.
The big event has been rescheduled for October 1 and the club officials – and the golfers – are hoping the elements might be a little kinder at that stage.
