There will be free parking all day in the High Street and Lewis Road car parks for the entire month of December, KillarneyToday.com can confirm.
From December 1 to December 31, parking in the Glebe car park and the New Street Upper car park – close to the credit union – will be free of charge from 8.30am to 11.00am but, after that, the usual pay and display rates will apply until 6.30pm.
The New Street Lower car park – at the tourist office side – will be free from 8.30am to 1.00pm and again from 4.00pm to 6.30pm while the Fair Hill car park will be free of charge from 8.30am to 1.00pm.
There will be no seasonal relaxing of the rates for on-street parking which will continue to apply from 8.30am to 6.30pm each day.
The situation with the Rock Road car park remains to be clarified.
Mayor of Killarney, Cllr Niall Kelleher, welcomed the free parking initiative and said it would be good for businesses and for shoppers.
“It will, undoubtedly, be of some assistance at the busiest time of the year and anything that encourages people to shop in town is to be welcomed,“ he said.
