Jamesie boxes his way towards All-Ireland glory

Glory trail: 13-year-old Jamesie Casey from Hazelwood Drive, Killarney

A POWERFUL and talented young athlete from Killarney will fly the Kerry and Munster flags in the All-Ireland Boxing Championships which will commence on December 3 and continue over three weekends.

13-year-old Jamesie Casey, from Hazelwood Drive, triumphed in the Munster Boys’ 43kg provincial semi-final with a first round stoppage on November 14 and he followed that up in Cork at the weekend with another stoppage in the opening round to win the provincial title.

A first year student in Killarney Community College and a member of Sliabh Luachra Boxing Club, Jamesie will now carry Munster hopes on his sturdy shoulders when he boxes for an Irish title next month.

He is currently undergoing an extensive training programme under the careful watch of his coaches Jake Kelly, Jennifer O’Sullivan-Coffey and John Coffey.
