THE funeral of the hugely popular mother-of-six who died as a result of injuries sustained in a road traffic accident on Friday will take place this coming Wednesday.
Joanne Downey passed away at Cork University Hospital on Sunday. She was injured in a collision involving a truck at Cleeney Roundabout in Killarney at 8.40am on Friday.
A staunch supporter of and active volunteer with Killarney Legion GAA Club, healthcare worker Joanne lived at Ash Grove in Ballydribbeen and was originally from Knockalougha, Knocknagoshel.
She is survived by her children Mark, Chris, Katriana, Ellie, Shane and Cassie and grandchild Éabha.
The daughter of Joseph and the late Marie Downey, she is further survived by her son-in-law Paul Horan, Mark’s partner Kiann, Chris’s partner Claudia, Ellie’s partner Neil, brothers and sisters Brendan, Helen, John, DJ, Kay and Marian, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, relatives, neighbours, her work colleagues and her many great friends.
In accordance with government and HSE guidelines, and in the interest of public health, a private funeral will take place for Joanne. Her Requiem Mass on Wednesday morning at 10.30am in St Mary’s Cathedral will be live streamed on http://www.killarneyparish.com/. Burial will take place in Aghadoe Lawn Cemetery.
