KILLARNEY was greatly saddened when word filtered through this morning of the passing, overnight, of June Walshe whose family is very well known and popular in the town.
Soft-spoken and gentle, she was an avid walker and a familiar face on the roads around Killarney where she enjoyed frequent strolls with family or friends.
Née Moriarty and originally from Tralee, June lived with her family in Woodlawn Park, Killarney where neighbours had great respect and admiration for her.
She was a great supporter of the annual Ring of Kerry charity cycle since its inception and her Galway native husband, retired Garda and former Killarney Town Council member Cathal Walshe, is the long-serving PRO for the event.
June also took a keen interest in all sporting events, from the days Cathal organised the Killarney Sports Star Awards and through the involvement of their sons, Finbarr and Enda, with Killarney Legion GAA club and other sporting organisations.
The Legion club said on social media that it was deeply saddened to learn of her sad passing.
June, who passed away at home following an illness, is survived by Cathal, Finbarr and Enda, daughters-in-law Catherine and Breda, grandchildren Rebecca, Amy, Nia and Dara, brother Jerry, sisters-in-law Anne and Patricia, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and many friends.
In accordance with Government and HSE guidelines, and in the interest of public health, a private funeral will take place for June followed by private cremation.
The Requiem Mass in St Mary’s Cathedral will be live streamed on Killarneyparish.com on Friday morning at 10.30am.
The family has asked for, donations, if desired, to be made to Kerry Palliative Care and Recovery Haven.
