While candidates in the general election and their supporters were keeping an eye on the vote counting process in Killarney at the weekend there were hundreds of others watching action of a different kind at the Killarney Historic Rally.
The elements were unfavourable and the competitors had to battle with slippery conditions and poor visibility but it didn’t deter them from providing a real spectacle for motorsport enthusiasts to enjoy.
Killarney was exceptionally busy for the weekend with rally fans arriving in town from all parts of the county and beyond and the action was brought to the town centre on Friday night for the ceremonial start at which the public got to see the drivers and navigators.
Despite the presence of two-time world rally champion Kalle Rovanpera in the field, in a power-packed Toyota Starlet, it was Donagh Kelly who registered a first win in his BMW M3in the Killarney and District Motor Club organised event.
