A friendly soccer match, between Kerry’s League of Ireland side and the most successful club in the county, will generate funds for the family of a great soccer stalwart who died, suddenly, in early December.
Father of three Philip (Phil) O’Sullivan passed away while on a trip to the UK to see his beloved Liverpool FC play Newcastle United in a Premiership tie.
Originally from Ballyspillane and living in Ashgrove in Firies, Philip was a dedicated and popular coach with Killarney Celtic FC for many years and he dedicated much of his spare time to the sport he loved.
He is survived by his partner Karen and children Craig, Alice and Edison.
To support the grieving family, a glamour challenge between Killarney Celtic FC and Kerry FC has been lined up for Celtic Park in Killarney next Tuesday night, January 14, with a 7.30pm kick-off under lights.
The game will give high-flying Celtic – who have won an unprecedented six league and cup doubles in the past six seasons – pit their wits against their more illustrious opponents who have injected new blood this year in the hope of making more of an impact in the League of Ireland’s second flight.
Admission at the will be €10 and 25 for under 16s and all proceeds will go to the O’Sullivan family.
