Paul Murphy reports
KERRY have been pitched against Munster rivals Corks and Ulster representatives Cavan in the round-robin phase of the revised 2020 All-Ireland Ladies Senior Football Championship.
The draws were made in Portlaoise yesterday with the four-in-a-row chasing champions Dublin handed a spot in group 3 of the pool stages against Waterford and Donegal.
Kerry must face while 11-times senior champions Cork as well as Cavan in Group 1 and it will be a big ask for co-managers Declan Quill and Darragh Long although Kerry have the firepower to cause problems for any side.
Quill and Long are joined on the sideline this season by selectors Geraldine O’Shea and Annemarie O’Donoghue and strength and conditioning coach Cassandra Buckley.
Galway, the 2019 runners-up, have been drawn with last year’s Intermediate winners Tipperary and Monaghan in Group 2, while Ulster sides Armagh and Tyrone have both been drawn together in Group 4, alongside 2019 semi-finalists Mayo.
The four teams topping their respective groups will progress straight through to the All- Ireland semi-finals, with the winners of Kerry’s group facing the group 2 table-toppers, while the group 3 winners will play the top team in group 4.
Dublin, Galway, Cork and Mayo – the 2019 semi-finalists – were seeded for the draw.
The dates and venues will be confirmed in due course.
Group 1: Cork, Cavan, Kerry
Group 2: Galway, Tipperary, Monaghan
Group 3: Dublin, Waterford, Donegal
Group 4: Mayo, Armagh, Tyrone
