FÁILTE Ireland has commended the efforts of its 1,000 strong team of conference ambassadors, including leading academics and industry experts, who have collectively attracted over 1,500 international conferences worth €766.5 million to date, with a further €130 million worth of conferences to take place across the country from 2019-2026.

The national tourism development authority held an awards ceremony at Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin and among those honoured including two ambassadors who, alongside the Killarney-based Kerry Convention Bureau, brought major international conferences to the wider Kerry region.

Hosted by Today FM radio presenters Dermot and Dave, the event acknowledged that Chris England and Maurice Galway had brought two significant international conferences to Kerry, worth over €1.3 million.

Chris was responsible for bringing the International Commission for Alpine Rescue Conference in 2015 and Maurice worked on the Animation Ireland’s International Conference in 2015.

Over 75 per cent of all international association conferences which come to Ireland do so at the direct invitation of a local Irish member or host, something Fáilte Ireland maximises through its Conference Ambassador Programme.
Becky Hargrove, Sales Manager with the  Kerry Convention Bureau, said she is proud to work in partnership with Meet in Ireland on their Conference Ambassador initiative.

“We acknowledge the significant role that the programme plays in delivering both economic benefit to the local economy and helping cement Kerry’s reputation as an iconic, diverse and attractive business events destination,” she said.
