Killarney declared cleaner than European norms

Killarney was declared cleaner than European norms

KILLARNEY is one of the top three towns in the country in terms of litter control and cleanliness – and that’s official.

Despite the challenges thrown up by the Covid-19 lockdown, the town has finished in third position overall in the latest Irish Business Against Litter League compiled by An Taisce who praised the exemplary standards maintained in the town.

Kilkenny was the overall winner followed by Athlone with third placed Killarney one of nine towns or cities to be declared cleaner than European norms.

Outside of the top three, the other locations in the elite group were Portlaoise, Maynooth, Ennis, Roscommon, Fermoy and Waterford City Centre.

Tralee slipped to 15th position but the town was stil declared clean to European norms.

It was the first nationwide survey by the group since the Covid-19 crisis commenced and the judges noticed an increase in Covid-19 related litter, including disposable masks and gloves, as well as a rise in cans and glass bottles, on the streets.
