Killarney is celebrating being names Ireland’s best holiday destination in a poll of readers of a national newspaper

Comments submitted to the Irish Independent poll were lavish in praise of the town’s spectacular scenery and the great buzz on the streets and one subscriber went as far as describing the town as “the most beautiful place on Earth”.

The nominations included rich praise for the national park, the quality of restaurants, lively bars, great shopping, walking and cycling route and the legendry traditional boat trips on the lakes.

While Killarney has been named Ireland’s best holiday destination, neighbouring Dingle was in second place followed by Galway, Westport, Donegal, Wexford, Kilkenny, West Cork, Cork City and Waterford.
