HOLLYWOOD star Tom Cruise might be remembered in Dingle for his lead role as a fighting Irishman Joseph Donnelly in Far and Away but it will be his performance as daring airforce pilot Lieutenant Pete Maverick Mitchell that will be the focus of Killarney’s attention on Monday, July 4.

An open air screening of the 1986 classic Top Gun – also starring Kelly McGillis and Val Kilmer – will be a real summer highlight in the spectacular grounds of Killarney House and the event is already a sellout.

Part of the Kerry Film Festival’s summer open air cinema project, in association with Kerry County Council, the audience will get to watch the big movie in a very unique setting with the show due to commence at 9.30pm.

Meanwhile, the open air cinema on the lawns of Muckross House on Friday, June 17 will feature a screening of Princess Bride, starring Robin Wright, Mandy Pantinkin and Cary Elwes.

The popular 1992 film is for all the family to enjoy and while it won’t start until 9.30pm, access will be allowed from 7.00pm.

Hit 1994 dance movie Footloose will be screened in Killarney – at a venue yet to be confirmed – on Friday, September 2.
