Killarney sadness at the passing of a man of great wit and charm

THE death has occurred of long-time Killarney resident Tony Devine who was very well known in the tourism and hospitality business throughout Kerry and beyond.

Originally from Dublin, formerly of Listowel and late of Knockasartnett in Killarney, Tony was the public face of Guinness in Kerry for many years in his capacity as the company’s sales manager in the county.

With his trademark Dublin wit and fun-loving manner, he was very popular with customers and those he encountered on his daily travels and he was a staunch supporter of local sporting and community events for which he arranged generous sponsorship packages over many years.

A keen golfer who was known in all the clubs of Kerry. Tony was also a regular reader for many years at the Prince of Peace Church in the parish of Fossa.

He passed away, suddenly, on Monday surrounded by his family in care of the team in the Palliative Care Unit in Tralee.

Tony is survived by his wife, Ann, son Stephen, daughter Catherine, son-in-law Charles, daughter-in-law Avril and his grandaughters Sophia, Lauren and Zara.

He is further survived by his brother Christy, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

In accordance with Government and HSE guidelines, and in the interest of public health, a private funeral will take place for Tony in the Prince of Peace Church, Fossa, Killarney. The Requiem Mass will be livestreamed on on Thursday morning at 11.00am, followed by private cremation.
