Killarney to celebrate Fr Jim’s silver jubilee

Fr Jim Lenihan: 25 years in the priesthood

A community celebration is being planned to mark a very special occasion in the life of a very popular Killarney priest.

Fr Jim Lenihan is celebrating the silver jubilee of his ordination this June and, to honour the occasion, a special thanksgiving Mass will be celebrated in St Mary’s Cathedral at 7.00pm on Friday.

Parishioners, family and friends will be in attendance and there will be refreshments afterwards in St Brendan’s College.

A native of Boherbue, Co Cork, Fr Jim served in Listowel, Castletownbere, Allihees and Eyries before being transferred to Killarney by Bishop Ray Browne in 2014.

He as ordained to the priesthood in St Patrick’s Cathedral in Thurles, Co Tipperary on June 7th 1997.

In a statement, Killarney parish said: “We wish him every blessing, happiness and health in the years to come and we pray in thanksgiving for the gift of his ministry in the Kerry diocese over the last 25 years”.

Fr Jim is closely associated with Killarney Legion GAA Club and PRO Enda Walshe described him as an ardent supporter.

“He’s very popular and affable and he has taken to Kerry like no Corkman ever did,” Enda remarked.
