THE ugly topic of racism, its presence in the community and the threat it poses, will come under the spotlight at a public meeting on the issue which is planned for Killarney.
The event, titled A Conversation about Racism, will be held in Killarney Library on Tuesday night next, December 11, at 6.30pm.
It will be hosted by Kerry Against Racism which is a member of the European Network Against Racism and the event is open to the public.
Keynote speakers will include John O’Shea of Kerry Against Racism and the Social Democrats, Brigid Quilligan of the Kerry Traveller Movement and Shahida who will represent asylum seeker and refugees groups.
“This is an opportunity to hear first-hand from people living in our community on the topic of racial equality and how we as a community can combat racism in all its guises,” said John O’Shea.
Topics to be discussed will include what does racial inequality look like in today’s world, how it affects minority groups and, more broadly, how does it affect the dignity of society as a whole?
