THE businessman who spearheads the Killarney-based Gleneagle Group has been honoured with a lifetime achievement award for his contribution to the tourism and hospitality industry.
Patrick O’Donoghue was in the spotlight at the inaugural Connect Kerry Hospitality Awards ceremony in the Ballygarry House Hotel in Tralee on Tuesday night.
The Managing Director of the progressive hotel group – which owns the INEC and the Gleneagle, Brehon and Scott’s Hotel in Killarney and has extensive interests in several other hospitality operations – has over 25 years of service operating at a very high level in the tourism sector.
A director of Killarney Golf and Fishing Club and a key executive member of the Kerry branch of the Irish Hotels Federation and Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce, he is also a past director of Fáilte Ireland.
Making it a memorable night for the Gleneagle Group at the awards gala, The Brehon was named Team of the Year, Annette O’Leary of Scott’s Hotel was chosen as Receptionist of the Year and Betty Treacy of the Gleneagle Hotel was named Accommodation Assistant of the Year.

Best Hotel Bar: O’Donoghue’s, Killarney Towers Hotel
Editor’s Choice: Natalie Bader, Heights Hotel
Other award winners with Killarney links included Hotel Manager of the Year Derek Carroll of the Imperial Hotel, Tralee, who lives in Fossa, and Madeline Doyle, Rose Hotel, Tralee, Wedding Manager of the Year, who is from Beaufort.
