BASKETBALL in Kerry will by flying high this season thanks to an innovative new partnership deal with Kerry Airport.
The game, at juvenile and senior level, has been given a major boost with the announcement that the Farranfore facility has become the lead sponsor of the sport in the county.
The Kerry Area Basketball Board (KABB) season has just commenced with over 300 teams competing in over 50 league, cup and plate competitions and the airport sponsorship covers all sections, including men’s, women’s and juvenile events.
CEO of Kerry Airport, John Mulhern, said basketball – in clubs and schools – is at the heart of so many towns and villages in Kerry with hundreds of people playing, coaching and coordinating games, camps and activities.
“We are proud to play our part and we are looking forward to working closely with KABB in promoting and developing the sport at club level into the future,” he remarked.
The partnership will also embrace the representative Kerry teams from under 14 to under 17 as well as academy under 12 and under 13 teams. The new-look Kerry Airport logo will be featured on the team jerseys.
Kerry Airport, which serves two German destinations with Ryanair, is also planning to send one of the underage teams to compete against a German team in Berlin in the new year.
Executive Secretary of Kerry Area Basketball Board, David Ahern, said: “It’s an exciting time in Kerry basketball as the game is enjoying continued growth throughout the county”.
