Dawn Milk Ladies Day at the races – one of the real social highlights of the year in Kerry – will be on Thursday, July 18 and Mairead and John will be keeping a close eye on the style stakes with some sensational prizes on offer for the most head-turning and appropriate outfits.

The winner of the best dressed lady contest, selected by Mairead, will receive a trip for two to romantic Paris and the best dressed gent – chosen by John – will take home a trip for two to magnificent Milan. Judging will start at 2.00pm and 10 finalists will be selected for both the ladies and men’s categories.

The five-day meeting will commence on Monday, July 15 with the hugely popular Milliners event and Mad Hatters competition. Great prizes must be won for the best hand-made adult and children’s hats or head-pieces with top class and hugely creative milliners exhibiting unique and beautiful pieces on the evening.

The Wednesday meeting will also be something very special as punters will have an opportunity to meet the stylish Rose of Tralee contestants and the highlight will be the Sauternes Wine Cup.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will be evening meetings and the afternoons will come alive at Killarney Racecourse on the Thursday and Friday.

And they’re off: Killarney Races are now worth an estimated €8m to the town

Friday, July 19 is a new date for the Killarney July Festival of Racing and there is a fabulous celebration planned to mark the occasion with fantastic live entertainment on the cards and, such is the demand, the hospitality suite is almost fully booked already.

The overall prize pool for July is a whopping €560,000 and, of course, punters will get to enjoy wonderful action on the track with some of the top trainers in the business testing their star performers at the most scenic racecourse in the country.

Killarney is hugely proud of the fact that this year’s Epson Derby winner, Anthony Van Dyck and 2017 Derby champion Wings of Eagles both won at the Ross Road course which is a favourite venue for top trainer Aidan O’Brien.

The white flag will be raised for the first meeting on Monday and Tuesday at 5.50pm, on Wednesday the off will be at 6.00pm and the first race on Ladies’ Day will be at 2.25pm. Friday’s racing will get underway at 1.55pm.
