IT was a lively Marty Party the likes of which Killarney has never seen before.
RTÉ’s hugely popular GAA commentator Marty Morrissey was the star attraction at the Kilcummin club’s social and he certainly lived up to the billing with his trademark fun-loving, gregarious and laughter-filled personality.
He was the VIP master of ceremonies as the club celebrated one of its most successful years ever during which Willie Maher led his troops to the Kerry and Munster Intermediate Championship crowns and they now set out on the road to Croker which, all going according to plan, will see an All-Ireland title brought to the proud parish in a matter of weeks.
The victory social in the Gleneagle Hotel was a lively affair with Marty presiding over the presentation of the Intermediate and O’Sullivan Cup medals while club stalwarts Donal and Niamh O’Dwyer were also honoured with the coveted Club Person of the Year award.
On Twitter the following day, Marty posted a snapshot of himself with the Kilcummin players and remarked: “People of Kilcummin are very special. Kerry and Munster titles, Kerry minor and junior captains, former President of the GAA, fantastic development on the way but, above all, great people”.
