MISCHIEVOUS minions are preparing to invade Killarney.
The small, yellow, cylindrical creatures, many with just one eye, are planning to take over the streets on Sunday, August 2.
The high-pitched, tiny, yellow-skinned characters, who first came to life in the smash hit movie Despicable Me, will run en masse through the town at the height of the tourist season and they are sure to stop bemused visitors in their tracks.
The tiny impulsive minions, who have little self-control but a wide-eyed wonder and a pure innocence, are hoping their visit to Killarney will be sufficient to earn them a prized place in the Guinness Book of Records and stern-faced adjudicators will have the abacus in overdrive as they attempt to keep count.
Jerry, Kevin, Stuart, Dave and Carl were the minions that sprang to prominence in the hit movie and the all hope to be in Killarney to join in the fun.
It’s all part of a novel world record attempt spearheaded by the organisers of the Killarney 10-Mile road race which will raise funds for a state-of-the-art running track in the grounds of St Brendan’s College.
They hope to persuade as many people as possible to dress as minions and take to the streets with prizes up for grabs, including the best-dressed.
While the minions will paint the town yellow on August 2, the 10-mile run itself will take place on September 26.
