Two Rathmore residents shared the limelight at the weekend and both had great cause to celebrate.

Kerry ladies’ football star Danielle O’Leary was the grand marshal at the St Patrick’s Day parade – the first to be held in the country – on Sunday afternoon as locals celebrated not only the national feast day but the success of the Kerry ladies in the All-Ireland Championship.

Sharing the platform with Danielle was one of the parade organisers, Michael O’Mahony, who was in the spotlight himself last Friday night when he was named East Kerry GAA Person of the Year.

Although he is a native of Annascaul, Michael and his wife, Catherine live in Rathmore where he is a great community activist with an involvement in the GAA and local community groups.

A champion fundraiser for various charities, Michael was PRO of the East Kerry Board for several years and it was his commitment to that role that saw him honoured at the All-Stars banquet.
