Mini-greenway would highlight fantastic vista

There is fantastic countryside to be admired on the road between Killorglin and Milltown

With the development of a 15-acre Killorglin town park proposed for land generously donated by the McCarthy family, and the commencement of construction of the South Kerry Greenway, there has been a call for a mini-greenway to be provided between Killorglin and Milltown.

Cllr Michael Cahill said it would be greatly welcomed by locals and visitors and it should include a viewing area at the Kilderry Bends Bypass for everybody to enjoy the fantastic vista that is Castlemaine Harbour.

Cllr Michael Cahill: Great potential

“This cycle and walkway could eventually connect north and south Kerry through the Kingdom of Kerry Greenways, which, in the long term, would tie in to Sliabh Luachra via Killarney and Corca Dhuibhne via Dingle,” said Cllr Cahill.

“We have a beautiful county and we should open it all up to walkers and cyclists and utilise it to its best advantage which is also good for our health and the environment”.

He said Castlemaine Harbour offers spectacular sights but on the present route, it is mainly seen only by passengers in vehicles.

“A viewing area with parking would allow everybody take it in and enjoy it,” Cllr Cahill said.

“Funds should be sourced, plans drawn and viable projects like this will make Kerry blossom,” he added.

Cllr Cahill has called on Kerry County Council to investigate the feasibility of installing a walk and cycleway from Killorglin town to Milltown, incorporating the proposed new town park, to encourage outdoor exercise.
