THE weather was mixed but the welcome was warm and the action was top class as sheep handlers and their loyal canine companions descended on Killarney to compete in the Irish National Sheepdog Trial held over three days.
With nearly every event cancelled since the start of the pandemic, there was understandably great excitement to see life return to near normality in Fossa on 52 acres of land provided by the Europe Hotel and Resort.
The sheep for the event were from the farm of Jim Dennehy from the Gap of Dunloe road and Con Healy from Millstreet.
The trials saw 150 of the country’s top handlers working with their incredibly obedient dogs to compete for the much title which was eventually won by the experienced Peter Morgan and his dog Mosse.
The event was also a showcase to select the 15-person Irish team to represent Ireland at the International Sheepdog Trials in Aberystwyth, Wales.
