ALTHOUGH it is unlikely to be the team that will take to the field on the day, Kerry has named a starting 15 for Saturday evening’s crunch Super 8’s phase three clash with Meath in Navan (6.00pm).
Recent trends have seen Peter Keane and co name a line-up but several changes are being made before the games commence, much to the frustration of supporters.
The practice – which has also been adopted by several other counties in an apparent attempt to confuse the opposition – is also causing upset for fans who like to keep official match programmes as collectors’ items and souvenirs of the big occasions but the information contained within the covers is very seldom accurate.
In Croke Park last Sunday week Peter Keane and his selectors swapped and changed before the start with Shane Enright, Diarmuid O’Connor and Killian Spillane coming in to replace David Moran – who was injured – Jack Sherwood and Graham O’Sullivan.
Against Mayo in Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney on July13, there were four changes made before the throw-in from the team named just two nights earlier with Gavin Crowley, Adrian Spillane, Shane Enright and James O’Donoghue coming in for Jack Sherwood, Diarmuid O’Connor, Micheál Burns and Dara Moynihan.
Kerry go into Saturday evening’s game – which will be broadcast exclusively on SKY – knowing a win or a draw will see them through to the All-Ireland semi-finals on the weekend of August 10/11.
In the team that has been named, David Moran returns and will partner Adrian Spillane at midfield, Shane Enright starts at wing back and team captain Gavin White at wing forward.
Killian Spillane – who played really well against Donegal – will partner David Clifford and Paul Geaney in the full forward line with Stephen O’Brien on the wing.
Once again, in keeping with recent trends, Kerry have not released the names of the players that will start on the bench.
Kerry: Shane Ryan (Rathmore), Jason Foley (Ballydonoghue), Tadhg Morley (Templenoe), Tom O’Sullivan (Dingle), Paul Murphy (Rathmore), Gavin Crowley (Templenoe), Shane Enright (Tarbert), David Moran (Kerins O’Rahillys), Adrian Spillane (Templenoe), Gavin White (Dr Crokes), Sean O’Shea (Kenmare), Stephen O’Brien (Kenmare), David Clifford (Fossa), Paul Geaney (Dingle), Killian Spillane (Templenoe).
