More boom that doom and gloom in June

International visitor numbers were up eight per cent in Kerry and other parts of the country for the month of June compared to the same month last year, data collected by the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation has confirmed.

The increase was reported despite the British source market being flat.
The official figures 669,500 international visitors were in Ireland during June, spending an estimated €684 million.

As is very obvious on the streets of Killarney, in particular, North America was the most valuable market, accounting for 41 per cent of that spend.
46 per cent of visitors came for reasons of holiday and leisure and the length of stay remained unchanged averaging 7.3 nights per visitor.

There was a 10 per cent increase in passenger numbers at Cork Airport, to 308,000, in June with a six per cent rise at Shannon (214,420), three per cent to Dublin (1,193,000) and one per cent arriving by ferry (244,700).
The Irish Tourism Industry Confederation dashboard compares each month to the same month last year and uses a variety of sources including CSO and airport and hotel data.
