Kerry Sinn Féin will hold its annual Easter Commemoration on Sunday, April 20, honoring the legacy of the 1916 Easter Rising and those who fought for Irish freedom.

The commemorative march will begin at 12,00 noon at the Pikeman monument on Denny Street, Tralee, proceeding to Rath Cemetery where the main event will commence at 12.30pm.

This year’s commemoration will be led by chairperson of the Kerry Sinn Féin Comhairle Ceantair, Daithí Fitzgerald, and will feature a keynote address by renowned writer, political commentator, activist and former Sinn Féin director of publicity, Danny Morrison.

Morrison is widely respected for his contributions to Irish political discourse and literature. His powerful commentary, shaped by a life of activism, imprisonment and storytelling, offers deep insights into Irish republicanism, censorship, and reconciliation.

As the author of several acclaimed novels, memoirs and political essays, his address is expected to be both moving and thought-provoking.

Speaking ahead of the event, Daithí Fitzgerald emphasised the ongoing importance of the Easter commemorations.

“The importance of Easter Sunday commemorations is that they offer a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come since 1916,’he said.

“We gather to remember all the men and women who gave their all for Irish freedom. But this year, we also look forward to the future of this island, not only the contentious issues of today but also how these issues can be more effectively addressed in a United Ireland.”

Kerry Sinn Féin welcomes the public to join them in this important annual event of remembrance and forward-looking dialogue.
