Dangers at a junction leading on to the main Killarney-Killorglin road has been highlighted with calls for urgent remedial action to make it safer for motorists.
Cllr Brendan Cronin has pointed out problems at the junction on the Lahard Road from Pallas which joins the busy main N72, just on the Killarney side of Beaufort Bridge.
He said a dangerous narrow bridge there needs to be widened and the lack of visibility to exit safely was a real issue.
He also asked for a commitment to be given that the overgrowth from the surrounding ditches be cut back every six weeks for a distance of approximately 300 meters from the bad bend downhill to the junction.
“There is whitethorn and blackthorn scraping the sides of cars,” Cllr Cronin said.
He added that motorists existing from the junction on to the Killarney-Killorglin road are faced with “a totally blind pocket” on their right-hand side towards the shop at Beaufort Bridge.
Council officials said they will assess that particular section of the L-3035 and engage with landowners with a view to improving width and visibility.
The local authority is also considering the feasibility of providing signage and road markings at the location and the bridge has been proposed for funding under a rehabilitation programme.
Killarney Municipal District Engineer, John Ahern, said he would meet with residents and address as many of their concerns as possible.
