BEATING eggs as fast as the hen could lay them, a fun-loving Killarney priest has found a flipping great way to make the perfect pancakes this Shrove Tuesday – or has he?
Having taken to the kitchen to enthusiastically whip up the necessary batter, Fr Niall Howard was unsure of the perfect formula to adhere to so he opted to turn to Google to get some top tips from the culinary superstars to pass on to local schoolchildren.
The popular St Mary’s Cathedral curate initially contemplated seeking out the online advice from Nigella Lawson, Jamie Oliver or Donal Skehan but, instead, he opted for the original celebrity chef who was quite the sensation when a young, pancake loving Niall Howard was growing up in Tralee.
The game-for-a-laugh Fr Niall tuned into a masterclass with the legendary Swedish Chef from the Muppet Show whose catchphrase, Bork, Bork, Bork just about summed up the chaos for every dish he cooked.
But was it a winning recipe for Fr Niall? Did he whip up a sufficient quantity of tasty pancakes to keep his fellow priests in the Killarney parish happy? Or did he just give them cause to give him a Pancake Tuesday verbal battering?
Let’s just put it this way: He won’t be giving up the day job – but he might well be giving up pancakes for Lent!
