TRANSPORT Infrastructure Ireland (TII) has taken over the role as approving authority for greenways which was a role previously overseen by the Department of Transport.

TII has been involved in developing guidelines in relation to greenway delivery and putting structures in place for payments.

Kerry County Council is in communication with the organisation regarding the current programme and projects in the pipeline, including the South Kerry Greenway, the Tralee-Fenit route and the walkway from Listowel to the Limerick county bounds.

Approval has also been received for the appointment of a dedicated greenways-active travel senior executive engineer for the National Road Design Office in Castleisland and the appointed person will co-ordinate with the TII on the various projects.
