New theatre group to encourage new writers

The group will also be recruiting high profile writers to lead sessions and give talks

Those with a story to tell will be interested in a new playwriting group, Noke Theatre, which is being set up in conjunction with St John’s Theatre in Listowel.

The group will be managed by Richard Walsh, a Ballybunion playwright whose plays have been performed both locally and internationally.

The group will meet once a month and every six months a reading of excerpts of people’s work will take place in St John’s Theatre. Participation in the readings will be optional.

The group will also be recruiting high profile writers to lead sessions and give talks.

All levels are encouraged to join, with the only stipulation that participants are serious about completing a full play. The monthly meetings will provide support, structure and motivation to achieve that goal.

Those interested should contact Richard at [email protected] or Maire at [email protected] for further details.

The initiative is being supported by the Arts Council, St John’s Theatre and Kerry County Council.
