IT’S a fishy story with a very happy outcome.
A progressive Kerry company with a busy premises in Killarney has landed two three-star Great Taste awards and has been plaiced on an elite list of the top 50 foods in Ireland and the UK.
Quinlan’s Kerryfish is the only salmon smokery in Ireland and the UK to reel in three stars and it’s the second year in a row that the company’s organic smoked Irish salmon has netted a Great Taste award.
And the judges weren’t codding when they also lauded their smoked salmon with Atlantic sea salt speciality.
Considering that there were over 10,000 entries and that only 130 products were awarded a three-star gold medal, it is quite an endorsement.
Judged by over 400 food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs, producers and a host of food writers and journalists, including Masterchef judge and restaurant critic Charles Campion, Great Taste is the most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers.
Company managing director, Liam Quinlan, remarked: “This is hugely exciting and serves as a great testament to the skill and dedication of the entire team.”
Quinlan’s Kerryfish, a family business for over 50 years, is run by Michael Quinlan and his three sons, Liam, Ronan and Fintan.
Their smokery is located at Renard Point and they have fish shops and seafood bars in Killarney, Tralee and Cork.
