No laws being broken by young car enthusiasts

Supt Flor Murphy: Divisional Roads Policing Unit notified

GARDAI in Killarney say they are aware of what they described as “young motor enthusiasts” gathering in their cars in garage forecourts and shop car parks but, in the majority of cases, there is no law being broken.

The garda in charge of the division, Supt Flor Murphy, was responding to a query submitted by a member of the public to a virtual Joint Policing Committee meeting.

The complainant had voiced concerns about constant noise and dangerous driving occurring at night on Park Road.

She asked gardai if there was anything that could be done to put a stop to the behaviour.

Supt Murphy said, in the majority of cases, there are no breaches of legislation detected.

Fixed charge notices have been issued in relation to the breach of public health guidelines when drivers are found to have travelled outside the 5k limit that had been imposed.

“An Garda Siochana will continue to give the areas targeted attention, particularly at weekends and the appropriate action will be taken where breaches of legislation are detected,” Supt Murphy said.

He said the concerns voiced by the member of the public have been brought to the attention of the Divisional Roads Policing Unit and all members at Killarney Garda Station.
