Not all work and no play on council agenda

There are four playgrounds in the Killarney Municipal District

There has been a call for the public playgrounds in Killarney to be kept open – even if only for an extra hour or so – when the weather is fine on long evenings.

Cllr John O’Donoghue has asked council officials to review the closing times in line with the clock change to enable families to get the most of the evening time.

Cllr John O’Donoghue: Longer opening times sought

He said during the particularly fine weather over Easter, families were going to the playground in Knockreer to find the gates locked at 5.30pm.

“This was despite it being bright for another couple of hours. I’ve been contacted by numerous families asking for the facility to be left open for an extra hour in good weather,” Cllr O’Donoghue remarked.

Officials said there are four playgrounds in the Killarney Municipal District – Fossa, Gaelscoil Faithleann, Knockreer and Rathmore.

During the winter months they close at 5.30pm, seven days a week but during the summer months the closing time changes to 7.30pm, in line with the clock change.
