TOP of the range motor cars, expensive designer watches and a significant sum of cash was seized by the Criminal Assets Bureau following early morning searches of properties in Kerry and Cork this Wednesday.
CAB officials, backed up by uniformed garda and detective units, conducted three separate searches – one in Kerry and two in Cork – and the garda dog unit also assisted in the operation.
The target of the searches was a man, aged in his 50s, who was previously investigated by CAB in 2011 as part of a money laundering investigation.
Today’s raids – which two place at one business premises and two houses and involved 20 officers – led to the seizure of a 161 registered Mercedes Benz car, a 182 registered Audi TT, Rolex, Omega and Mont Blanc watches and €1,400 in cash
A number of phones and electronic devices were also removed from the properties as well as cryptocurrency purchase records.
It is understood that one of the properties searched was in the mid Kerry area with two close to Cork City.
Gardai said this morning’s search operation was a significant development in an ongoing Criminal Assets Bureau investigation. In addition to this morning’s operation,CAB will consider using its Revenue tax powers in respect of any liability that may arise.
