He passed away, peacefully, at his home in Treanmanagh, Glenbeigh, surrounded by his family.
A native of Wales and a psychiatrist by profession, Dr Melia met Pauline Bewick while he was studying in Trinity College in Dublin and they were married in 1963.
He was the consultant psychiatrist in St Finan’s Hospital, Killarney for a number of years.
Dr Melia is survived by Pauline, their daughters Poppy and Holly, sons-in-law Conor and Luca, four grandchildren, Aran, Adam, Chiara and Giada, and many other relatives and friends.
Waking will be on Monday at his residence between 5.00pm and 8.00pm with private cremation at the Island Crematorium, Cork, on Tuesday.
