Plan to give new life to old building

The former Rosenbluth plant in Fossa

A MAJOR new tourist attraction being planned for Killarney will give whole new lease of life to a sprawling build that has been vacant for years.

Planning permission has been sought to transform the former Rosenbluth factory at Killalee, Fossa into a micro craft distillery and visitor centre.

The application, submitted by Killarney Brewing Company, seeks approval to provide a new visitor centre with a café/restaurant, exhibition rooms showcasing the alcohol production process, folklore and brand history, a tasting bar with a retail zone, a gift shop, waiting lounge and space for multi-purpose events.

The application also seeks permission for a kitchen, an interactive room, a third floor beer and whiskey garden and a green roof area with a viewing deck.

Additional requirements will be a cask maturation storage area, a bottling, canning and kegging zone, staff rooms, toilets and coach and car parking facilities.

Killarney Brewing Company has sought approval to demolish the front entrance to the existing building and to erect an extension.

The application is currently being processed by Kerry County Council’s planning department.
