Police in Sussex have issued an appeal for witnesses

A YOUNG man from Killarney has died following a road traffic collision in the UK.

He was cycling on a roadway when he was struck by a vehicle in Sussex in the south east of England.

The incident occurred at approximately 8.20pm on Tuesday and police said the 26-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

The collision, involving a silver Vauxhall Zafira, happened on the A286 Main Road in Birdham, Chichester.

The victim, whose family still live in Killarney, had been living and working in the Chichester area. Police have still not formally released his identity.

It is reported that a man and a woman, both aged 34, were arrested on suspicion dangerous driving.

Police in Sussex have appealed for anyone with information or with dash-cam footage to come forward.

Expressing condolences to the young man’s family, who he knows very well, Cllr Donal Grady said his heart goes out to them following the tragedy.

“He is well known and they are a very respected family,” said the Killarney councillor who said he believed the victim’s parents were visiting him in the UK when the accident happened.
