Popular priest passes away at the age of 88

The late Canon Denis O’Mahony

FUNERAL arrangements have been confirmed for the late Canon Denis O’Mahony, the retired parish priest of Castleisland, who has passed away at the age of 88.

The Killeagh, Farranfore native will repose at Tangney’s Funeral Home, Castleisland, this Sunday from 3.30pm to 7.30pm with removal at 7.30 to Castleisland Parish Church.
Requiem Mass will be at 11.00am on Monday with burial immediately afterwards in the church grounds.
He is survived by his brother Tony, sister Kathleen (O’Donoghue), nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, sisters-in-law, Bishop Ray Browne and the priests of the Diocese of Kerry.

Canon O’Mahony was hugely popular during his service in the priesthood and he built up a wonderful friendship with parishioners of all ages.

He retired in July 2008 but he continued to say Mass in many parishes whenever the need arose and he was also willing to oblige other priests when they needed support.
