THEY spent years at the top of the classroom, passing on their knowledge to a whole generation of students, but now they are enjoying their days outside of the school gates as they have passed on the text books and chalk sticks to their successors.
The Kerry branch of the Retired Teachers’ Association of Ireland had their annual get-together on the Brehon Hotel in Killarney and, they reflected on their days in the classrooms and the great joy their teaching careers brought them.
Prior to their annual general meeting, they attended a Mass in memory of deceased members celebrated by Killarney Parish Administrator Fr Kieran O’Brien.
At the gathering a cheque was presented to the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland which represented the proceeds of a charity cycle undertaken by Seán Ó Catháin.
