The future of Killarney Community Hospital – due to close when the new community nursing unit opens later this year – will again be raised at a meeting of the Health Service Executive regional forum this week.
Cllr Marie Moloney is to request that, following the transfer of patients to the new facility, the HSE would invest “serious funding” in refurbishing the community hospital to provide much-needed respite services for the people of Kerry.

“Many people who are caring for their loved ones with a disability at home cannot access respite services due to severe shortage of such facilities in Kerry,” she said.
The meeting will be held in Cork County Hall on Thursday.
The 130-bed community nursing unit, located at Ballydribbeen with the main entrance from Upper Leis Road, was initially due to open last year with first patients due to moved from St Columbanus and Killarney Community Hospital earlier this year but this has not happened.
The facility is one of seven public private partnership built nursing units across the country announced by government in 2022.
