THEY lost heavily to the highly-rated Cork side in the league the previous weekend but Killarney’s Scott’s Lakers more than made amends when they surprised Fr Matthews in the quarter-final of the national President’s Cup on Leeside this Sunday.
And what makes the result all the more noteworthy is that the victory was achieved without three of their more influential players with Mark Green out injured, Padraig Lucey on O’Donoghue Cup final duty with Killarney Legion and Bulgarian Mikail Kapitanov gone home for Christmas.
40-34 up at half time, Antuan Bootle inflicted most of the damage with 22 points while Dan Griffin netted 20, Andrew Fitzgerald and Philip O’Connor both had 13 points and Justin Tuason, Cian Clernon on six and Shane Horan unerring from the throw-line in the closing minutes to clinch a 92-85 victory.
