Saints are cock-a-hoop with grant aid

The Sure-Shot basketball hoop

THIS is the type of professional basketball hoop that will be purchased by Killarney club St Paul’s with funds approved under the 2017 sports grants allocations.

Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, Brendan Griffin, confirmed that that the club has been allocated €5,500 for the purchase of four Sure Shot professional basketball hoops.

St Paul’s Basketball Club Secretary, Kathy Shine, and Development Officer, Padraig Weldon, had submitted the application and they expressed their gratitude to the minister for the allocation
They described it as “a huge boost” for the club which caters for over 400 juvenile members and the new hoops will be used specifically for the St Paul’s under eight and under 10 teams. The hoops are adjustable to eight foot which is ideal for this younger age group to help improve their shooting skills. The Sure Shot hoops are also much safer and reliable than the basic equipment that the club had been using.
“The money will be well spent. It is just another part of jigsaw for the future development of the club and to strengthen our under age structure which is growing every year,” Padraig said.

“Having the correct equipment to cater for the juvenile players is so important and Minister Griffin has been very supportive of the work we are doing in the development and promotion of basketball among young players in Killarney,” he added.
