ENTHUSIASTIC school children got to mix it with premier Olympic athletes and GAA superstars at the bumper AIB Schools’ Fitness Challenge in Killarney National Park on Wednesday.
The big 5k event was hosted by St Brendan’s College and Killarney Valley AC and a whopping 1,400 children from primary and secondary schools came from all over to walk and run with their heroes.
VIP guests on the day in Knockreer included Kerry footballers Colm Cooper and James O’Donoghue, international 400m hurdler and Olympian Jessie Barr and national indoor 800m champion and Rio 2016 Olympic hopeful Niall Tuohy.
Funds raised on the day will go to the development of a state-of-the-art community micro track facility in the grounds of St Brendan’s College.
Committee PRO, Jerry Griffin, thanked AIB for the great support and the sports stars for their attendance and he also praised everybody who offered such great support to ensure the event was the success it was.
