SEVEN of the 11 patients whose cancer diagnoses had been delayed after scans were misread or missed at University Hospital Kerry in Tralee have now died, it has been confirmed.
An official review of the crisis, conducted late last year, discovered that 11 patients had been identified and four were already dead but the hospital group has now confirmed that three more patients have since passed away.

The official report conducted by the South-South West Group found that the unreported diagnoses had a serious impact on the health of the 11 patients at the centre of the controversy.
The shocking errors were spotted in the summer of 2017 but the matter only became public knowledge when the issue was reported in the media several months later.
A detailed review of more than 46,000 CT scans, ultrasounds and x-rays, involving close on 26,000 patients and undertaken between March 2016 and July 2017, commenced in late 2017.
A locum radiologist who had been working at the hospital during the period reviewed was placed on administrative leave in late July 2017 before resigning three months later.
A review conducted by an independent outside radiologist recommended the need to define acceptable volumes of work for individual radiologists.
Confirmation that seven of the 11 patients were now deceased was given to Kerry Oireachtas members at a meeting with hospital management to discuss the situation on Monday.
